I recently built a darwin tclkit for steve landers (with my dyld tiger 
fix), and we saw a very similar problem there. IIRC Steve had a small 
testcase, he also did some testing with older versions of tclvfs, 
metakit etc which seemed to avoid the problem (i.e. this doesn't seem 
to be a core problem directly).
