[Starkit] where do binary extensions etc. get written *to*?

IIRC, and unless I've got the wrong end of the stick, binary
extensions have to get written outside the starkit vfs.   If so, where
do they go?   I've got a starpack running at the moment on a win2000
box and can't find any trace of the dll's I know I put in there out in
the real filesystem, even thought they must be operational for the
application to function.
