Yes, I think I've solved it now.

A few problems in configure.in and aclocal.m4 needed fixing, as well as 
updating to zlib-1.2.2 and TEA 3.2

If the other platformers are willing, I'd like you to try again with
http://svn.scheffers.net/zlib.tar.gz

Extract and then just

   tclsh build.tcl

and it will try to build for the tclsh you are running build.tcl with.

Other problems I fixed in this version is add -fPIC/-Kpic to a number of 
platforms, removed the C++ style comments and some other minor things/
