Unable to set up Starsync server

I've tried to set up a Starsync server as described on www.equi4.com/starsync. When I want to test my setup using my browser nothing is written to the log file. When I try to use sdx update I get the following error message:
CLIENT: comparing with http://localhost:8015/starsync/sync.cgi ... unexpected reply:
I've had these problems on Windows and SUSE.
