G5 vs. X86, OSX vs Linux

comparison which
confirms what I've been seeing, but for which I never
had any real data to back it up: the Mac is not as
snappy at the core level as a Linux/x86 combo.
Wouldn't ever want to go back to anything else though
- in terms of helping me get the work done, my 1 GHz
PowerBook remains in a league of its own.
