The name "Wikit" can be interpreted in two ways:

Both are accurate.

Wikit implements the Wiki Wiki Web collaborative web concept invented by Ward Cunningham to be used in a number of ways:

  • as a CGI script run from Apache or TclHttpd or AOLserver
  • as a self-contained web-server
  • as a local-mode version of a wiki, using a Tk GUI
  • as an embedded portable help system for Starkits

There is quite some information about wikit on the Tclers' Wiki (a very actively maintained public Tcl/Tk resource, itself an excellent showcase of a site driven by wikit, by the way). One way to find relevant pages is via a search request.

Some pages on this website are also stored in wikit, as you can see here.

See the What is a Wiki? article by Nathan Matias for an overview which really covers a wide range of wiki and wiki-like systems available today. Another very nice wiki based on Tcl and Metakit is ProjectForum ("pay-ware").

The latest source changes are tracked in CVS, with public anonymous access. To checkout the latest version, type this (pw empty, so no login needed):

To update at any time, do "cvs -z3 up -P -d" in the "wikit" directory.

There's a public web interface to CVS based on CVSweb.
